Caran d’Ache: The Pinnacle of Swiss-Made Writing & Colour

Since its inception as the Fabrique Genevoise de Crayons, Caran d’Ache has been a guardian of the art of handwriting and drawing. Renamed in 1924 after the pseudonym of French satirist Emmanuel Poiré (from the Russian karandash, meaning pencil), the brand has spent over a century at the forefront of creative technology. In its Geneva workshops, more than 90 different crafts—from precision engraving to manual lacquering—are practiced to create icons like the 849 ballpoint pen, the Ecridor collection, and the world’s first watercolour pencil, the Prismalo.
