Hobbycraft is one of those retailers I’ve got genuinely mixed feelings about — and I mean that in the most honest, useful way possible. I’ve spent sixteen years in the art and craft supplies industry, nearly a decade of that at ARTdiscount, and I now run Discount Art Supplies — a price comparison site used by tens of thousands of UK artists. I know Hobbycraft well. I know what it does brilliantly and where it falls short. And I also know that for a huge proportion of UK crafters, it’s the first and last shop they’ll ever need. So if you’re looking for a Hobbycraft discount code — or any genuine way to save money there — here’s everything I know.
The Hobbycraft Discount Code — What’s Actually Available
Unlike some retailers where promo codes are rare or unreliable, Hobbycraft has a reasonably active discount code ecosystem — and several of the best savings don’t even require a code at all. Here’s the full picture.
The most commonly reported community code worth trying at Hobbycraft checkout is HC515 — historically offering £5 off a spend of £15 or more. This code has been verified by MoneySavingExpert in the past and can reportedly be used on top of existing product promotions, which makes it more useful than most single-use codes. It cannot be combined with other discount codes, and it excludes workshops, subscriptions, and gift cards. Always verify it’s active at checkout as these codes have expiry dates.
Beyond community codes, Hobbycraft’s offers page releases promotional codes periodically through their newsletter, app, and partnership sites. The most reliable way to catch these is to be signed up to the Hobbycraft newsletter and have the app installed — both of which also unlock the other savings I’m about to cover.
The Hobbycraft Club — The Best Ongoing Discount
If you’re a regular Hobbycraft shopper and you’re not in the Hobbycraft Club, you’re leaving money on the table. The Club is free to join — online, in store, or through the app — and the benefits are genuinely worth having.
New members get 15% off their first purchase when the offer is advertised — effectively making it the best first-order discount Hobbycraft offers. Beyond that initial saving, Club members earn 5% back on every purchase as loyalty vouchers, receive a £5 birthday voucher, and get access to exclusive member offers and early sale notifications throughout the year.
The digital club card lives in the Hobbycraft app, which also gives you access to mobile-exclusive offers that don’t appear elsewhere. If you’re buying from Hobbycraft regularly — and with two kids at home who go through art supplies at an alarming rate, I know exactly how often that is — the 5% back accumulates into something meaningful over the course of a year.
One important note: the 15% new member discount is only available when advertised. It’s not a permanent feature — Hobbycraft runs it as a promotional offer rather than a guaranteed welcome benefit. Worth checking whether it’s currently active when you join.
Hobbycraft Plus — Is It Worth £150 a Year?
Hobbycraft Plus is the paid tier of their membership — £150 per year — and it’s worth running the numbers before dismissing it as expensive.
What you get for £150: 15% off every purchase throughout the year, free next-day delivery upgrades on orders over £25, three free seminars per year, and networking opportunities through the Plus community. If you spend £1,000 or more at Hobbycraft in a year — which is not an unreasonable amount for a serious crafter buying regularly — the 15% saving alone is worth £150. Everything above that is pure saving.
For casual shoppers the free Club membership is almost always the right choice. For regular Hobbycraft buyers who spend in volume, Hobbycraft Plus repays itself. Work out your typical annual Hobbycraft spend and divide by 6.67 — if the result is less than £150, the free Club is better. If it’s more, Plus saves you money.
Student Discount — 10% Off via UNiDAYS or Student Beans
Students get 10% off at Hobbycraft through either UNiDAYS or Student Beans. You verify your student status through whichever platform you’re already registered on, receive a Hobbycraft promo code, and apply it at checkout.
The student discount works online and in store. In store you show your valid student card at the till. Online you verify through UNiDAYS or Student Beans and receive a unique code to apply at Hobbycraft checkout.
Standard exclusions apply — craft machines, workshops, and gift cards are typically excluded. But for the core art and craft supplies range, 10% for students is a meaningful saving particularly when you’re buying regularly for a course. If you’re an art student buying supplies and you’re not using this discount, you absolutely should be. Combined with our price comparison tool to make sure Hobbycraft is competitive on price in the first place, you can make your art supplies budget go significantly further.
Blue Light Card — 15% Off for NHS, Emergency Services and Armed Forces
Hobbycraft accepts the Blue Light Card, offering 15% off both online and in store for eligible groups — NHS staff, emergency service workers, social care workers, and armed forces personnel.
To redeem online: log into your Blue Light Card account to receive your unique Hobbycraft promo code, then enter it at hobbycraft.co.uk checkout. In store, show your valid Blue Light Card at the till. This is one of the higher Blue Light Card discounts available at any UK retailer and is worth using every time you shop at Hobbycraft if you’re eligible.
Newsletter Sign-Up — 15% Off Your First Purchase
New email subscribers at Hobbycraft receive a 15% off voucher code delivered by email when they sign up through the Hobbycraft newsletter sign-up page. The code is single-use, applied at the basket, and valid on eligible full-price items. It can reportedly be used on top of existing product promotions — which is a more generous stacking policy than many retailers operate.
Beyond the welcome code, the newsletter gives you early notification of seasonal sales — Summer Sale, After-Christmas Sale, and recurring multibuy events — alongside any active promotional codes. Worth signing up to even after your first purchase just for the sale notifications.
How Hobbycraft Promotions Actually Work — The Honest Take
Having watched Hobbycraft’s promotional activity for years — and having spent a decade watching how large UK craft retailers operate generally — I can tell you that Hobbycraft runs a reasonably predictable promotional calendar that’s worth understanding.
They run regular multibuy promotions — 3 for 2 on selected products, half price on seasonal lines, bundle deals on specific categories. These rotate through the year and don’t require a code — the discount is applied automatically in your basket when eligible items are included. These multibuy events are often the best value Hobbycraft offers, particularly on consumables like paints, papers, and craft materials that you’ll use regularly anyway. Check their current offers page to see what’s running right now.
Seasonal sales are the other major savings opportunity. The Summer Sale, the After-Christmas Sale, and periodic category promotions offer genuine reductions. Hobbycraft’s sale pricing is real. If you can wait for a sale period on a larger purchase, it’s usually worth it.
The one honest caveat about Hobbycraft for serious art supplies buyers — and I say this as someone who genuinely appreciates what they do — is that for professional-grade materials, Hobbycraft isn’t always competitive with specialist art retailers. For everyday consumables, beginner ranges, craft materials, and kids’ supplies, they’re excellent value. For premium watercolours, professional oil paint, or specialist brushes, you’ll often find better pricing and selection at Jacksons Art, GreatArt, or Cass Art. Always compare before you buy — which is exactly what our price comparison tool is there for.
Hobbycraft Delivery — How to Get It Free
Hobbycraft’s delivery options are worth knowing before you add a discount code to your order — because a code saving you £3 on a basket that triggers a £4.95 delivery charge isn’t actually saving you anything.
Standard delivery: Free on orders over £25. £4.95 below that threshold. Delivered within around 3 working days by Royal Mail.
Click and Collect: Free on orders over £10. £2 below that threshold. Ready in 1 hour to next working day when ordered before 8pm. This is often the smartest option for smaller orders — pick up from your nearest store and avoid delivery charges entirely. Find your nearest Hobbycraft store here.
Next day delivery: Free on orders over £200. £7.95 below that threshold on orders placed before 8pm Monday to Friday.
The £25 free standard delivery threshold is low enough that most Hobbycraft orders will qualify without difficulty. If you’re buying close to £25 worth of materials, adding a small extra item to reach the threshold is usually better value than paying £4.95 shipping.
