Derwent: Masters of Pencil Craft Since 1832

Derwent stands as a cornerstone of British manufacturing, with a history deeply rooted in the heart of Cumbria. Since the discovery of graphite in the Borrowdale Valley, the brand has evolved from a local pencil maker into a global leader in fine art materials. Today, Derwent is celebrated for its commitment to innovation, constantly pushing the boundaries of traditional media through products like the revolutionary Inktense range, Lightfast oil-based pencils, and their professional-grade Graphitint collection.

The brand operates with a focus on quality and sustainability, ensuring that every tool—from their signature sketching pencils to their versatile water-soluble media—offers exceptional performance and lightfastness. Their diverse inventory includes:

Drawing & Sketching: From the classic Graphic pencil to the unique Onyx and Tinted Charcoal ranges.

Soluble Media: The industry-leading Inktense and Watercolour collections that transform from pencil to vibrant wash.

Professional Painting: A curated selection of paint pans, markers, and innovative accessories like their battery-operated erasers and precision sharpeners.

Derwent remains a trusted partner for artists at every stage of their career, providing not just the tools, but also the inspiration through their “Derwent Art Prize” and extensive online tutorials. By blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary technology, Derwent continues to define the standard for artist-grade pencils and creative equipment across the UK and beyond.
