Discover Bristol’s 7 Best Art Supply Shops
Last updated: April 2026
Bristol is one of the UK’s most creative cities. Home to Banksy, Nick Park, Upfest — Europe’s largest street art festival — and a genuinely thriving independent arts scene, it’s no surprise the city has built up a solid collection of art supply shops to keep its artists well stocked.
Whether you’re a fine art student at UWE, a hobbyist painter in Clifton, or a professional illustrator based in Stokes Croft, there’s something here for you. We’ve pulled together the seven best art supply shops currently operating in Bristol, from the big names to the brilliant independents.
And if you can’t find what you need locally — or just want to compare prices before you head out — our daily art supply deals page tracks the best online prices from UK retailers updated throughout the week.
1. Cass Art Bristol
Image: Cass Art Bristol, Park Street
43-45 Park Street, Bristol, BS1 5NL
Mon–Sat: 10:00–18:00 | Sun: 11:00–17:00
Tel: 0117 925 8515
If you only visit one art shop in Bristol, make it this one. Cass Art on Park Street is the city’s flagship art supplies destination — a proper grown up art shop stocking everything from student-grade starter sets right through to professional materials from Winsor & Newton, Michael Harding, Golden, Derwent and Mabef.
What I like about Cass Art is that every member of staff is an actual working artist. You’re not getting advice from someone who read the product description five minutes before you walked in — you’re talking to people who use this stuff. That matters when you’re spending £40 on a set of brushes or trying to decide between two grades of watercolour paper.
The shop also includes an Art Space used for workshops and community exhibitions, which fits perfectly with Bristol’s creative culture. They operate a best price guarantee too, so if you find the same product cheaper online they’ll match it.
Worth checking our Cass Art deals page before you visit — their online promotions sometimes run alongside in-store pricing and you can plan your visit around the sales.

2. Art At Bristol

44 Gloucester Road, Bishopston, Bristol, BS7 8AR
Mon–Fri: 9:30–16:30 | Sat: 10:00–16:00 | Sun: Closed
Tel: 0117 923 2259
Art At Bristol on Gloucester Road is exactly the kind of place that shouldn’t work on paper but absolutely does in practice. Small, old fashioned, slightly chaotic — and absolutely packed with genuinely useful art materials at competitive prices.
This is the shop that Yelp reviewers describe as looking closed from the outside because of the drawings and stickers covering the windows. Don’t be put off. Get through the door and you’ll find canvases often at discounted prices, a solid range of paints and brushes, lino cutting tools, scalpels, portfolios, drawing boards and a lot more besides, all squeezed into a space that somehow contains more than you’d expect.
The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and genuinely happy to advise beginners on the best materials to start with. If you’re new to painting or just getting back into it after a break, this is a brilliant first stop before committing to more expensive materials.
Gloucester Road itself is worth the trip — it’s reputedly the longest street of independently owned businesses in Europe and there are several other creative shops and galleries worth exploring while you’re up there.
3. Craft and More
Image: Craft and More, Bristol city centre
Bristol City Centre
Craft and More is one of those shops that takes you by surprise. Spread over three entire floors in the heart of Bristol city centre, it stocks thousands of affordable products covering dozens of different creative activities all under one roof.
It’s not a specialist fine art shop in the way that Cass Art or Art At Bristol are — think of it more as a creative supplies superstore where the breadth of stock is the main selling point. Painting, drawing, papercraft, fabric, model making, kids craft — it’s all here and generally at accessible price points that won’t leave you wincing at the till.
Particuarly good if you’re looking for materials across multiple disciplines, buying for a family, or just wanting to browse without feeling the pressure of a more specialist environment. The three floor layout means there’s always something you weren’t expecting to find, which is either brilliant or dangerous depending on your willpower.
4. Room 212

Gloucester Road, Bristol
room212.co.uk
Room 212 is technically more of a gallery and art shop than a traditional art supplies store — but it earns its place on this list because it’s one of Bristol’s most genuinely loved creative spaces and a brilliant destination for artists who want to engage with the local scene rather than just buy materials.
The shop showcases original paintings, prints, handmade gifts and homewares from local Bristol artists. The range changes constantly, the prices are accessible, and the whole thing is run as a genuine community hub rather than a purely commercial operation. The Gloucester Road community around it — independent cafes, other creative shops, artists running their own studios nearby — makes the whole area worth an afternoon.
If you make art and you’re looking for a potential stockist for your own work, Room 212 is worth a conversation. They’re actively involved in the Bristol artist community and the kind of shop that supports emerging local talent.
5. Children’s Scrapstore and Artrageous
Image: Children’s Scrapstore, St Werburghs
Scrapstore House, 21 Sevier Street, St Werburghs, Bristol, BS2 9LB
Tue–Fri: 10:00–17:00 (Thu from 11:00) | Sat: 10:00–17:00 | Mon & Sun: Closed
Tel: 0117 908 5644
This one is genuinely unlike anything else on this list and deserves to be much better known than it is. The Children’s Scrapstore is a Bristol charity that collects around 100 tonnes of business waste materials every year and repurposes them for creative use. Their Artrageous shop sells the results — an ever-changing, never-predictable collection of materials at prices that make a conventional art shop look expensive.
Described by regulars as a cave of wonders, you never quite know what you’ll find on any given visit. Unusual textures, repurposed industrial materials, end of line stock from manufacturers — it’s the kind of shop that sparks ideas you wouldn’t have had if you’d just gone to a conventional art supplies store and bought the obvious things.
Every purchase supports the Scrapstore’s charitable work with children and community groups across Bristol. If you care about buying locally and supporting something genuinely worthwhile, this should be on your list. Free car park right outside which is a rare luxury in Bristol.

6. Artigo

Gloucester Road, Bristol
artigoshop.co.uk
Artigo sits on the vibrant Gloucester Road and operates as a hybrid art gallery, gift shop and creative space. They stock artwork from emerging and established Bristol-area artists alongside locally made gifts, handmade jewellery, ceramics, glass and more.
What makes Artigo interesting beyond the retail offer is the creative community aspect. They hire out a dedicated exhibition room for artists to showcase work, run workshops, and operate a guest trader model where artists can sell from their space without the overhead of a permanent retail unit. It’s a genuinely collaborative model that reflects the best of what Bristol’s creative scene does well.
Not a traditional art supplies shop — but absolutely worth a visit if you’re exploring Gloucester Road and want to see what Bristol’s contemporary artist community is producing right now.
7. Hobbycraft Bristol

Cribbs Causeway, Bristol (also Imperial Retail Park, Wills Way, BS13 7TJ)
hobbycraft.co.uk
Hobbycraft isn’t the most glamorous entry on this list but it earns its place through sheer practicality. A spacious, well-organised craft superstore with a broad range of art supplies, canvases, sketchbooks, paints and drawing materials at accessible price points — and regular promotions that make it worth checking before a big purchase.
It’s the place to go when you need a large quantity of something at a sensible price, or when you want to browse without feeling like you need to justify your visit to a specialist member of staff. Also genuinely good for mixed media and craft supplies that the more specialist art shops don’t carry.
Bristol actually has two Hobbycraft locations — Cribbs Causeway in the north and Imperial Retail Park in the south at Wills Way (BS13 7TJ). Worth checking which is more convenient before you travel.
We track Hobbycraft discount codes and promotions on DAS regularly — worth checking before your next visit as they run discount code promotions fairly often.
