Does The Range Have a First Order Discount?

Does The Range Have a First Order Discount?

Not in the traditional sense. The Range doesn’t currently offer a standard new customer promo code that gives you a percentage off your first order — which puts them in the same camp as Jacksons Art, who also prefer to apply discounts directly rather than through codes. If you’ve searched for a The Range first order discount and landed here empty-handed, that’s why — most coupon sites are listing codes that either expired months ago or simply never existed in the first place. I know because I’ve been tracking UK art and craft retailer promotions at Discount Art Supplies since 2022, and The Range has never run a tradtional first order discount code in all that time.

What The Range does offer new customers is arguably more interesting — and worth signing up for regardless of whether you make a purchase immediately.

The £100 Gift Card Competition — Sign Up to Enter

When you sign up to The Range newsletter, you’re automatically entered into a monthly prize draw to win a £100 gift card to spend at The Range. This runs every month — so the longer you stay subscribed, the more chances you have to win. My wife Lucy is convinced she’s going to win one of these at some point. She’s been subcribed since I told her about it and hasn’t managed it yet, but the point stands — the more months you’re in, the better your odds.

For anyone who shops at The Range regularly — and with over 50,000 products across home, garden, craft, and art supplies it’s hard not to find something useful there — a £100 gift card is significantly more valuable than a typical 10% off code. A 10% discount on a £50 order saves you £5. A £100 gift card is self-explanatory.

The newsletter also gives you first access to sale events, new arrivals, and promotional codes when they do appear — which is the other reason it’s worth being signed up regardless of the competition. Sign up at therange.co.uk — it takes about thirty seconds.

The Range Student Discount

Students get a discount at The Range through UNiDAYS — verify your student status, receive a discount code, and apply it at checkout. The percentage varies and is worth checking at UNiDAYS directly before any purchase, as student discount rates can change.

For art students buying supplies — canvases, paints, brushes, craft materials — The Range’s student discount is worth using on every order. It’s available online and in store. In store, show your valid student ID at the till. Online, verify through UNiDAYS and apply the code at checkout.

NHS Discount at The Range

The Range offers a 10% NHS discount on homeware and other products for NHS workers. Access it by signing in through the official NHS discount page and searching for The Range. The 10% applies across eligible products and can be used alongside other promotions in some cases — worth combining with sale pricing when available.

For NHS staff who use The Range for art and craft supplies, home furnishings, or anything else in their enormous product range, this discount is worth claiming on every order.

How The Range Promotions Actually Work

The Range is one of those retailers that runs promotions constantly rather than having a single predictable sale calendar. I’ve been posting their deals to our The Range deals page and the wider community when they’ve caught my eye, and they genuinely do have something on most weeks if you know where to look. Their offers page updates regularly with percentage-off deals, category sales, and product-specific promotions across home, garden, art, and craft. Unlike a department store with two big annual sale events, The Range tends to have something on most weeks — which makes their offers page worth checking before any significant purchase.

Promotional codes do appear occasionally — community-reported codes offering 8-10% off orders over a minimum spend have appeared periodically and some have been verified by major deal communities. These aren’t permanent or guaranteed, but worth trying at checkout. Check our The Range deals page for any currently active verified codes before you buy.

The free delivery threshold is £59 on eligible items — look for the free delivery badge on product pages. Below that, standard delivery starts from £3.95. Click and Collect is free from all 260+ UK stores, which is worth using if you have a store nearby to avoid delivery charges on smaller orders.

Is The Range Worth Using for Art and Craft Supplies?

This is a question I get asked in our community of 36,000 UK artists regulerly — and the honest answer is: it depends entirely on what you need and where you are in your art journey.

The Range has a genuinely broad craft and art supplies section covering canvases, basic acrylics, sketchbooks, pencils, brushes, and craft materials at prices that make it accesible for beginners, parents buying for children, and teachers stocking classrooms. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — with two kids at home in Poulton who treat art supplies as essentially consumables rather than tools, I have developed a deep and abiding appreciation for a shop where you can stock up without wincing at the receipt. The Range fills that role brilliantly in our house. My son went through three sets of watercolour pencils last term alone. We were not buying Caran d’Ache.

For entry-level and everyday consumables The Range is competitive and convenient. For professional-grade materials — proper artist-quality paints, specialist brushes, professional watercolour paper — the specialist retailers will serve you better. Jacksons Art, Great Art, and Cass Art carry the depth of range and professional-grade products that The Range doesn’t.

The smart approach: use The Range for basics and consumables where price matters more than specification. Use specialist retailers for materials where quality directly affects your work. And always compare prices first — our price comparison tool covers all the major UK art retailers so you can see who has the best current deal before you buy.
