Printful vs Printify β Which Is Best for UK Artists in 2026?
Last updated: April 2026
If you’ve decided to sell prints of your artwork online without holding stock, you’ve almost certainly landed on two names β Printful and Printify. They dominate the print on demand space and both will tell you they’re the best option for artists. Predictably.
The honest answer is that neither is universally better. They’re built around different models and suit different types of artists. After 16 years in digital marketing β including a decade working inside the art supplies industry β I’ve seen artists make expensive mistakes by picking the wrong one without properly understanding the difference.
So let’s settle this properly.
What’s the Actual Difference Between Printful and Printify?
This is where most comparison articles gloss over the thing that matters most.
Printful is a single company. They own their own printing facilities, employ their own staff, and fulfil every order themselves. When something goes wrong there’s one company to call. When quality is inconsistent you know exactly who’s responsible.
Printify is a marketplace. They connect you to a network of third party print providers around the world. You choose which supplier handles your orders. That means more flexibility and often lower prices β but also more variability in quality and a more complex experience when things go wrong.
That fundamental difference flows through into almost every other aspect of the comparison. Keep it in mind as we go through the details.
Pricing and Profit Margins for UK Artists
This is where most artists start and honestly it’s a reasonable place to start. Here’s a rough comparison on a standard A4 art print:
| Product | Printful Base Price | Printify Base Price | Winner |
|---|---|---|---|
| A4 Art Print | ~Β£5.50 | ~Β£3.50-Β£4.50 | Printify |
| A3 Art Print | ~Β£7.50 | ~Β£5.00-Β£6.50 | Printify |
| Framed Print (A4) | ~Β£22.00 | ~Β£18.00-Β£21.00 | Printify (marginally) |
| Canvas (20×16″) | ~Β£28.00 | ~Β£22.00-Β£26.00 | Printify |
| T-shirt (Gildan) | ~Β£14.00 | ~Β£10.00-Β£12.00 | Printify |
On base pricing alone Printify wins almost every category. The reason is simple β they’re aggregating multiple suppliers who compete on price, whereas Printful sets its own rates as a single supplier. Printify also offers a Premium plan at around Β£22/month which gives you an additional 20% off all base prices. If you’re doing any real volume that pays for itself very quickly.
But β and this is a big but β cheaper base prices only matter if the quality and reliability hold up. More on that shortly.
UK Shipping β This One Matters More Than People Think
As a UK artist selling primarily to a UK audience, where your products are printed and shipped from makes an enormous difference to both cost and delivery times. This is one area where a lot of artists don’t do enough research before they start.
Printful has its own fulfilment centre in Latvia which handles most European and UK orders. Shipping to UK customers typically takes 3-7 business days and costs around Β£3.50-Β£5.00 for standard prints. Not terrible, but not as fast as a domestic supplier.
Printify wins here for UK artists because their network includes several UK-based print providers β most notably Prodigi, who operate from the UK and offer next-day production on most products. UK to UK shipping is faster, often cheaper, and sidesteps any potential customs complications entirely.
Post-Brexit this matters. Customers ordering from an EU-based supplier can occasionaly face unexpected import charges or delays. A UK-based Printify supplier eliminates that risk completely.
Print Quality β The Honest Truth
I’ll be straight here: print quality is genuinely difficult to compare objectively because it varies by product, by supplier, and even by batch. What I can tell you is what the pattern tends to be.
Printful quality is consistent. Because they control their own production you know roughly what you’re going to get every time. The quality is good β not exceptional, but reliably good. For most artists selling prints online that consistency is genuinely valuable. A customer who orders from you in January and again in August will get the same product both times.
Printify quality is variable. The best Printify suppliers produce excellent results β often better than Printful on certain products. But the worst suppliers are noticeably worse, and if you don’t research your supplier choices carefully you can end up with inconsistent output that damages your reputation with customers. The onus is on you to sample products from your chosen supplier before you start selling. That’s an extra step that Printful doesn’t require.
My recommendation: if you go with Printify, order samples from at least two or three UK suppliers before you commit. The small upfront cost of doing this properly will save you a lot of headaches later.
While you’re thinking about print quality, it’s worth considering the source materials you use for original work too. The better your original artwork file, the better any print will look. We track deals on Jackson’s Art, Cass Art and other major UK retailers if you want to keep material costs down while you’re building your print business.
Platform Integrations for UK Artists
| Platform | Printful | Printify |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify | β Excellent | β Excellent |
| Etsy | β Excellent | β Excellent |
| Squarespace | β Good | β οΈ No native integration |
| WooCommerce | β Good | β Good |
| Wix | β Good | β οΈ Limited |
| BigCommerce | β Good | β Good |
Printful’s integration story is stronger across the board, particularly if you’re on Squarespace. We’ve written a full Squarespace review for UK artists if you’re weighing up your platform options β the print on demand integration limitations are one of Squarespace’s genuine weak spots.
If you’re on Shopify or Etsy, both platforms integrate equally well with both Printful and Printify and the integration choice shouldn’t be a deciding factor.
Product Range
Both platforms have expanded their product catalogues significantly in recent years. For artists specifically the most relevant products are:
- Fine art prints (giclΓ©e quality on certain suppliers)
- Framed prints
- Canvas prints
- Art prints on metal or acrylic
- Greeting cards
- Tote bags and apparel with artwork
- Phone cases
- Mugs and homeware
Printify edges ahead on product variety simply because you’re accessing multiple suppliers rather than one. Some niche products β certain paper types, specific framing options, unusual formats β are only available through specific Printify suppliers that Printful simply doesn’t offer.
If you want giclΓ©e-quality fine art prints specifically, worth looking at Prodigi through Printify who have built a strong reputaion in this space among professional artists.
Customer Service β No Contest
Printful wins this hands down and it’s not close.
When something goes wrong with a Printful order you contact one company. They have a well-documented support process, they respond reasonably quickly, and they have clear policies on reprints and refunds.
When something goes wrong with a Printify order it can get complicated. Printify’s support team are the middlemen between you and the actual supplier. Resolution times can be slower and outcomes more variable depending on which supplier you’re using. I’ve spoken to artists who’ve had excellent Printify support experiences and others who’ve found it genuinely frustrating.
If you’re just starting out and the thought of navigating supplier disputes gives you a headache, that’s a legitimate reason to start with Printful even if the margins are slightly tighter.

So Which Should UK Artists Actually Choose?
Here’s my genuine recommendation after years of watching artists navigate this decision:
Start with Printful if: You’re new to print on demand, you want to get set up quickly without a lot of research, you’re on Squarespace, or you value consistency and straightforward customer service over maximum margin.
Start with Printify if: You’re selling primarily on Shopify or Etsy, you’re willing to put the time in to research and sample UK-based suppliers, you’re focused on maximising profit margins, or you want access to a wider product range including giclΓ©e-quality fine art prints.
The advanced move: Use both. There’s nothing stopping you from using Printful for certain products where their quality and integrations are strongest, and Printify for products where a specific UK supplier offers better pricing or quality. Plenty of experienced artists do exactly this.
